Today we have the 2015 Jaguar F-Type V6S
1st thing I have noticed, it is very comfortable as a sport car, It is the V6 with 380 hp but the power is available from the 1st RPM. In normal mode the engine noise is noticed even I hear the exhaust while it is little over 2000RPM
The car is little heavy, 1600kg without options. With options it might go to 1800 or even 2000kg, however it has full aluminum body except the front and back bonnets. But when driving the car you’ll not feel that heavy weight.
let us put it in sport mode (dynamic mode), power is fantastic while I just pushed quarter way of the pedal and we reached 150km, I can see the back wing raised.
It is 380hp and 460nm, supercharged, 8 speed gear. It is not double clutch but very fast very close to the PDK of porsche. Jaguar touch screen is very small with slow feedback. power is linear with no turbo lag.
It also has very strong brakes, the V6S has upgraded front disc with 380mm over the base model. The rear is the same with 325mm. The interior is in the middle of luxury not very luxurious neither the cheap interior.
It depend on who will customize the interior, Jaguar customization has a long list of options
with over 10 wheels you can choose, many interior and exterior colors, leather types and colors, dashboard colors, steering wheels (this one is the standard) the optional has flat bottom, coming standard on R model. Two seat models, sport and performance. performance seats has bigger sides to hold the driver.
I did not drove the V8s whether convertible or coupe R with 550hp and 680nm, but the V6 models has wider front and rear tracks over the V8 models. Also are lower which is very strange .
I think the weight advantage will go to the V6, I did not feel that it has a heavy weight. It feels very light and comfortable to drive even in the dynamic mode. I hope I can drive it in the track.
Now the second things and options, I thing no need for having the AC dash opened and closed every time you start the AC. It has two zone AC, no seat ventilation however I like the panoramic sunroof. Specially cars with bright colors it will give it a nice look.
The odometer is very simple, small central LCD showing temp, fuel, speed. F-Type remind me of the Z8 BMW from the back they added a small half circle to the rear lights to look different.
I thought before driving it, it will be close to the Cayman S specially its price is very close to the Caymen S or the GTS. After driving, it is very close to the base Carrera however the Carrera has less weight and power and the engine is in the back.
The question is, should I get the Jag or the Carrera?
well, it depends on which brand you more like
if you like the Carrera, then just buy it because if you choose the Jag, you’ll think again and again about the Carrera and you’ll blame yourself .
If you like the Jag and you know it has over 100 years history, then you’ll be very satisfied they made such car that can go head to head with the Carrera and the brand you like.
I did not find anything to complain about, the feeling inside the car is fantastic. You feel driving luxury & sport car but not noisy and tuff like other sport cars.
There is no back seats, it is 2 seater, a small box in the back for storage. The back compartment looks bigger than the Carrera’s, has hatchback style but if the spare wheel inside, it will be hard to add additional bag unless it is small.
What is special about english cars, they are very customized and the quality of the interior materials are so high specially if you took the top of the line. This car has a basic interior so we might not see its luxury. But if you ordered dashboard with stitches with two tones, stitching on the steering, wood (but I am not sure if this option available) but you might have carbon fiber or aluminum.
When you are inside, you feel seating very low, which is a very nice and sporty and all the surround glasses are very small. But without compromising the outside view.
F-Type prices start from 20k KD for the basic model then the V6S, V8S and R upto 40k KD. F-Type has convertible and coupe styles. Prices in Saudi Riyals starts with around 260k SAR upto 500k SAR.
I planned to take the car for longer time, but unfortunately marketing people in the GCC still using the old style marketing. If you need the car for long time then you have to fill forms and get middle east approvals and to communicate with Dubai. So I made a short cut by taking a normal test drive.
let us sit after the drive test
Now we drove the car, let us have a conclusion. This car is in the middle between the F-Type models 380hp & 460nm, brakes 380 front 325 rear, damping control is standard in the V6S. The car considered little heavy but while driving the weight is negligible and it feels lighter in paper it weights around 1800.
While driving it feels around 1500 kg, may be the car has little options. The seats are manual control without heating, no seat ventilation. But as a one package, the car is sport, practical, has a big luggage compartment, you can do shopping, you can travel with it.
The interior space is little small since there is no back seats like the carrera. Options and customizations are endless, whether inside or outside, like carbon fiber options for the outside.
I can not judge if it is track oriented as the Carrera until I drove it in a track. Carrera in the track delivers constant performance during 10 or 20 laps. Not like other car that you can do 4 to 5 laps then cool for 2 to 3 laps. Cooling engine, tyres, brakes, etc…
The one who will consider buying this car will not concentrate more on the luxury part. It will not be luxury as a Maserati or Bentley, since the car is english so we need to compare it with english car.
The car is cool with very reasonable price. the V6S starts from 24k KD (330k SAR)up to 29k KD (400k SAR). if you will drive it daily and travel with it then its brakes are very good even in the track. if you are a keeper for 10, 20 or even 50 years then I really recommend the ceramic brakes.little bit expensive, lighter by 20 kg and bigger (380mm rear, 395mm front) so it will stand against corrosion.
I have the money, shall I buy a Cayman, Carrera or F-Type?
If you like to drive a balanced car 50/50 then the Cayman or the Jag will suite you even for safety when reaching the limits. In the F-Type they worked hard to make it very balanced, the traction, the car has rear drive & front engine so it has an excellent traction.
You’ll get wheel spin when disabling the tracion control. Usually the Carrera has better traction since the engine is behind the rear wheels. So it has the best acceleration.
Finally, if you love the Jaguar brand then you are lucky they built a Jag that can stand agains Carrera. Also against, BMW & MB and very sporty.
If you are coming from Porsche, BMW or MB and you need to try new car like the Jag then I think it will be a 2nd choice for you. The best way for anyone willing to buy an expensive car, I suggest to rent a similar car for 1 or 2 days.
Personally I liked this Jaguar F-Type V6S and it is very recommended. I tried my best to gather all info about this car and my experience almost 1 hour of drive test.
I hope you get benefit
if you have questions or concerns you are welcome
Thanks and see you in another sport car next time
