2015 Porsche Cayman GTS Review

2015 Porsche Cayman GTS Review

Hi,
today we have the 2015 Porsche Cayman GTS,
what is GTS?
It is a sport and grand touring car
it has a history with Porsche
started with 904 Carrera GTS on 1963
904 is the 1st Porsche that is road legal as well race legal
then 80’s they brought the 924 GTS which looks like Nissan Z
90’s they brought the 928 GTS
in 2007 they introduced the Cayenne GTS later the 911 GTS
then Panamera GTS and now Cayman and Boxster GTS
the changes between Cayman GTS and S Engine
Power +15 hp to 340 hp
Torque +10 Nm to 380 Nm
you will notice these numbers are close to the base Carrera
it has the 3.4 flat six boxer engine that came from the base Carrera
the front and back are different with black accent that give nice sporty look
it is coming with many standard options
Chrono package plus, sport seats, sport exhaust
the current Cayman has complete new design on 2014
facelift will be 2016/17 then 2020/21 complete design
I have noticed the sound of the sport exhaust is louder than 997 GT3 inside and outside
from this loudness you think the car has 600hp power
if you like sport sound then no need to buy a very expensive sport car
the Cayman GTS will satisfy your needs
also the PASM is standard and is lower by 1cm than the Cayman S
adaptive Xenon lights standard
20″ wheels, front 235 rear 265
smaller than the Carrera size but it is a lighter than the Carrera
with weight around 1400 kg that is less than Carrera by almost 60 kg
the car is 2 seater, mid-engine behind the driver
if you love watching the sports cars engines then you will not see it here
unless you are in Porsche service but then you will see it is a normal looking engine
the car is balanced not like the Carrera
this will give you confidence on driving on the streets and circuits
you can attack the curve or drift with confidence you will not crash the car
Short shift Manual gear is standard with 6 gears but this car has the 7 PDK
the Manual is coming with rev-match for engine braking so no toe n heel
but a serious driver would love to do all this by himself with the Manual gear over PDK
TPMS to monitor tyre pressure is standard which I recommend in any car for safety
standard full leather interior that add value to the car
you will lose the 2 small useless seats in the Carrera
but you will gain two luggage compartments in front and rear
brakes in Cayman has 4 pistons in front and 2 in the rear against the 6 and 4 in the Carrera, Cayenne and Panamera
330mm in front and 299mm in the rear but the performance of the brakes are amazing
Porsche saying 0-100km acceleration manual gear will be 4.9s
with PDK will be 4.6s but we will try in normal and launch control
Porsche Cayman GTS which is more sportier but sadly they did not fit standard the
limited slip differential which is very useful in circuits
but you can have it optional with PTV that apply brakes to the inner wheels on the curve
to let the car go faster on cornering
PCM (Nav) and Bluetooth are optional which should be standard specially with a costy car
Bose sound system is optional but is a must
Front/rear sensors and backup camera are recommended options
while driving we will hear the brake noise which is normal in sports cars
after the 1st 3-4k km the car will become much more sportier and alive
the car is very useful
if you think it will broke frequently or needs maintenance more often since it has little tuff ride but this is wrong
the car considered little bit comfortable
if you turn off sport then the engine will cut off when you stop which you can disable
here it is more optimized and feels natural than the one we noticed in the Cayenne
the Cayenne might has software issue
the 1st think you will notice when you jump from Carrera to Cayman it the steering wheel feel
here it is heavier since the nose is carrying more weight than the Carrera that has over 60% in the back and lighter nose
you will notice also the cabinet is compact and smaller than the Carrera but in a good way
driver seat is low which gave nice sporty feel
the gauges is clear which has 3 rounds against the 5 in the Carrera
the only thing I did not like is the position of the accelerator
it stands with uncomfortable angle which is very strange from Porsche to do this mistake
Ok, we drove the car over the last two days so let us conclude
1st pricing
standard 20.5k KD , 270k SR
this car with options 25.5k KD, 330k SR
it deserve every penny
this car can be daily use, travel car since it has more luggage space
and you can take it to the track with light weight
during long driving you might not like the engine noise between 2-4k RPM
the power for normal driver is enough and more than enough in my opinion
there is no need to go to the Carrera
the person who will choose the Carrera is the one who believe the Porsche is only the 911
if so then you can have the base 911 with the same engine with 10+hp and 10Nm
and additional around 60 kg weight with rear engine with over 60% rear weight
Porsche is very safe car but the 911 will be dangerous if you push it to the limits
the driver of the 911 must be more alerted
911 maintenance is costly over the Cayman
and the last thing which I am conservative about is the price difference
100k SR around 8K KD to get the 911 with the same options of this car is too much
the sound and performance of this Cayman is amazing even if you switched off traction in empty road and needs to try the car
the car is very safe and balanced not like the 911 which if you switch off traction and lose control then it is game over
but if you drive the 911 normally from home to work then no issues at all
competitors of the Cayman GTS
BMW Z4M very nice sport car but is behind the Cayman
Mercedes Benz SLK good car
Jaguar F-Type V6 base very good car but it has a heavy weight around 1800-1900kg
the V6S we drove was close to the Carrera
now let me share spare parts prices in Kuwaiti Dinar and Saudi Riyal
prices are valid during publishing this episode
you will feel the Cayman light weight advantages when you brake, taking curves or lose control
you end up choosing which brand, Porsche BMW MB Jaguar
or you can consider the Japanese cars like the Nissan Z370 more affordable and has cheaper maintenance
I rank the brands as follows Porsche BMW MB then Jaguar
you will not regret If you choose the Cayman GTS and I really recommend this car
the power here is not a killing power like the 911 Turbo S or GT3 or GT3 RS
it has very reasonable power with control and you can enjoy flooring it all the time which you can’t with the 911 Turbo S or GT3 or GT3 RS
is this power enough? I say yes and more than enough in my opinion
forget about those who always say if you buy Cayman why you did not take the Carrera, then if you got the Carrera they will say why you did not take Ferrari, then if you take Ferrari then they will say why you did not buy the LaFerrari
people opinion is different
so if you need to choose sport car just ask experts or those who have passion about brands
person who rides Porsche today, MB tomorrow, BMW after, Ferrari and Lamborghini later
the car for him is like sunglasses or watches that he can change every 1 or 2 years
so he does not have passion respect about those brands
Porsche Warranty is 2 years international open mileage
you can extend it before expiry for additional 1 or 2 years after doing full inspection
extended warranty includes engine, gear and all electronics
full inspection must be done from A to Z including tyers if they are not good must be replaced
things not okay and under warranty will be changed
but things not included must be changed to renew
extended warranty 1 year price is 5k SR, 360 KD
you can extend till 9 years
but if you are willing to track the car more then I will say wait
you can pay 10K SR around 1k KD and buy the Cayman GT4
Personally I prefer the GT4 over the GT3 and GT3 RS, why?
it is a manual gear and less electronics than the 991 GT3
the 991 GT3 is PDK and has rear steering wheels with certain criteria that I will not talk about now
so it become more advanced since the try to compete with Ferrari 458 and Speciale
so they introduced many technologies to stand up against Ferrari
the GT4 has the engine of the Carrera S 3.8 which is the same in the GT3 but modified for the GT3
GT4 has the same brakes in the GT3 and GT3 RS
has the front suspension of the GT3
but the maintenance cost of GT4 will be higher compared to the Cayman GTS
maintenance cost of the Cayman is different from country to country
engine oil and filters every 20k km will cost between 1500-2000 SR
Finally, if you need affordable daily use Porsche then take the Cayman GTS
if you need to go racing then take the Cayman GT4 much cheaper than GT3 and better in my opinion.
those demanding the GT3 RS are who counts milliseconds in circuits
I hope I help you all and gave full information about this amazing car which I recommend very well.
See you next in another sport car
Bye
